The Power of Setting Intentions

At Soul Full Camp, we believe that intention setting is the starting point for manifesting your dreams.

So what exactly is intention?

We view intentions as the tour guides that work to set us in the right direction. We believe that intention is when you become clear about what you want to create in your life and also about how you want to show up in every moment. Setting an intention is activating a part of your receptivity. If you were to go out in the day, and not have set any intention of how you want the day to go, then you’re just accepting those things that will happen. This can be good sometimes because you’re allowing fate to happen to you, but if you know that you want to get somewhere, the power of setting an intention is going to help you get there.

Intention is planting the seeds of consciousness, and then, as Deepak Chopra says:

“Only when you release your intentions into the fertile depths of your consciousness can they grow and flourish.”
However, here’s the thing – you have to consciously set your intentions in order for them to manifest in your life.”

With that in mind, here are 9 steps you can take for setting intentions that are clear and effective in their ability to guide you toward the destination you wish to land on.

1. Start By Clearing Your Energy & Raising Your Vibration

When you set intentions, it’s incredibly important to do so from a clear, centered, and high vibrational state!

When you consciously take the time to raise your vibration, clear your energy, connect with increased light and expand your consciousness your intentions are going to be in a much greater alignment with your core soul desires.

One of the main reasons intentions don’t come true is because you may be setting an intention that’s out of alignment with who you really are. It’s based on fear, anger, or an attempt to run from something “bad”.

Instead you need to set intentions from a centered, high vibrational state so you can move towards your authentic soul desires.

Intentions that are in alignment with your soul’s desires, are those that are in alignment with your highest and greatest good and with the highest and greatest good of all.

Taking a long walk in nature is one of the simplest and most effective ways to clear your mind, and bring yourself into a positive energy that will support you in setting intentions.

2. Journal About What You Truly Want Out of Life

Your ego likely has all kinds of ideas about what will make you happy… perhaps it’s expensive clothes, exotic vacations, or a huge house.

But you need to think about what will bring lasting fulfillment and true joy on a soul level. This is the level of intention that is the most powerful. But it can be a bit more challenging to tune into.

Journaling is a great way to bypass your conscious mind and tune into the core desires of your soul. Get a journal, or a couple of sheets of paper, and start writing out the things that are most important to you in your life. This can include both people you love, experiences you yearn for, and contributions you would love to flow forth into the world.

Don’t hold back at this stage – anything is fair game, no matter how much your ego mind may say otherwise. This is the brainstorming process, so write down as many ideas as you can!

Some useful questions to help guide you:

  • What are some of the happiest memories you have in your life? Why did you enjoy them so much?
  • What things did you love doing as a child?
  • What do you do that seems to bring a smile to your face every time?
  • If you only had one year to live, how would you spend your time?
  • If you knew you could not fail… How would you serve humanity and the earth in a way you would love?

Don’t stop writing until you have AT LEAST 10 desires or dreams written down.

3. Sort Through Your Desires

Now that you’ve brainstormed your list of desires and dreams, it’s time to edit. Look at what you’ve written and ask yourself “Which of these are TRULY important to me?

It’s important to feel into this answer rather than letting the mind take the lead. Our minds can be rational to a fault. Leading with the mind can lead us to ignore the higher call of the heart, which ultimately knows what it is we really want–not what we think we should want or what we feel we need to do in order to feel like worthy, lovable humans.

As you sort through what you’ve written down, look for themes and patterns.

For example, is growing spiritually and stepping into your full light so you can bring forth your gifts and serve a theme? Or maybe you want to show up more fully in the present moment to really be there, to listen, support, and encourage those you care about most.

Try to get down to 3 core desires or dreams for the next step.

4. Where Are You Headed?

Habit loops are creating our lives whether we are aware of them or not. Take a close look at the current habits you have and the results they are giving you.

Ask yourself: If I continue to do this regularly, where will this habit lead me in the next year?

If these habits aren’t serving you, they will need to be swapped out with habits that will help propel you towards your desired destination.

5. Dig Deep Into Your Whys

Here comes the deep dive soul searching!

With each of your three remaining dreams, you’re going to use a “why” exercise to find out what your true highest intention is among these three.

Here’s how:

If one of your intentions is to find balance in your life, ask yourself, “why do I want to?”

Listen closely to your inner guidance for the answer. You may need to meditate on this, think about it, and really dive deep to get to the core. Keep in mind that ego may cloud things, so remember that there is often a “good reason” and a “real reason” behind why we want things.

Examine the answer. Let’s say you thought, “Well, I want to be as focussed on my own personal growth and not just taking care of everyone else.” Okay… why is this important to you?

Dig deeper, if you discover you want more balance so you can have more space in your schedule to create time for the people and passions that matter for your soul, or perhaps releasing the limiting patterns you all seem to be stuck in, or so you can serve humanity in becoming more peaceful and loving, these are reasons that are more likely to ring true on a soul level.

Remember, your soul dreams BIG! You are here to step into greatness. So don’t limit yourself when tuning into your dreams and desires on a soul level.

Here’s another example:

Let’s say one of your intentions is to have a million dollars in your bank account. Ask yourself, “why do I want to have a million dollars in my bank account?”

Dive deep to get to the core of why you really want to be open to greater financial abundance. Let’s say when you asked yourself why you wanted to have a million dollars you thought “Well, I want to have a million dollars because I’ve always felt poor and having money would make me feel good.”

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to dress nicely, drive a nice car or taking exotic vacations. But you don’t need nearly a million dollars in your account to feel wealthy. So this desire may not be your highest one.

On the flip side, if it comes deep from within that you want to start a fund to help other people or help the earth, to support your grandkids, or heal the limiting beliefs surrounding your prosperity consciousness so you can help others open to greater abundance… these reasons are much more likely to come from the soul.

This is a very important part of the whole process, so don’t skip it because the strength of your “why” determines the strength of your intention.

If your intention has a “why” that is grounded in the highest and greatest good of all, that comes from deep within, and excites you and maybe even makes you a bit nervous with how expansive it is YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!

6. Set Your Intention

Now you’re getting into the action phase!

Once you have your intention selected, write it out, along with your reason why you want this intention to manifest. Make sure you write your intention out with a positive tone.

7. What Are The Habits That Will Put You On Track Towards Your Desired Destination?

As we mentioned earlier, habits are major proponents in the process of creating lives that we love to live. We become what we repeatedly do.

If we wish to land on our desired destination (or if not our initial desired destination, someplace better), then we need to put in place a system of habits that will lead us in the right direction. Think of these habits as the series of micro-actions that gradually pull you towards your destination, like the consistent turning of the tires on a car.

8. Set An Action Plan To Achieve Your Intention

Setting intentions doesn’t work if you don’t put any action into making them happen!

For example, we have had the intention to hold five Soul Full Camps this year that serve women in transitioning out of the lower levels of fear, illusion and ego and into the higher levels of peace, awakening, love, light, truth and sisterhood.

Along this journey of building and growing we’ve asked our higher powers for help many times.

However, at the same time, we are taking massive action in alignment with accomplishing our intention in the form of constantly writing blog posts, updating social media, creating videos, doing admin work and sharing emails.

We know that our guides will help us to manifest our intention, but we also know that we have to play our part in the creation process as well.

So, what’s your action plan for making your intention come true?

What does massive action in the direction of your dreams and goals look like for you?

Be really specific here, and even consider using deadlines.

9. Continue to Asking For Help

Each and every morning, rewrite and say your intention out loud. Continue to take action towards making your dream become reality, and keep asking for help. Your spirit guides, the universe or whatever divinity you believe in are there to help you!

The more persistent you are, the more likely it is that your intention will manifest!

What If Setting Intentions Hasn’t Worked For You?

Release fear, enter into your open heart, raise your vibration, and tune into the power of your Higher Self and the divinity you believe in.

From this open, present, expanded state of consciousness, your intentions are so much more powerful because they are coming from a place of presence, love, and light – rather than from a place of lack.

When your intention is aligned with your highest truth, and when you act in alignment with this higher vibrational truth, your intention will manifest.
